Birchover Brewery

Since taking on The Red Lion in 2006, owners Matteo and Alyson have wanted to take the pub back to its roots as an alehouse, brewing beer  for customers to enjoy. 

After months of planning and recipe development, we now produce four core beers of our own, plus limited edition batches of ale throughout the year.

Our core ales are:

Bircher Best (3.9% abv) - a traditional full-flavoured Amber bitter.

Nine Ladies (4.2% abv) - a rich, dark tawny ale with bitter toffee aromas.

Cork Stone (4.5% abv) - a golden ale with aromatic hop flavours and a pleasant bitter finish.

Robin Hood's Stride (5% abv) -  an IPA packed with floral hop aromas and a clean bitterness.

New additons to our collection: 

Dol Tor - light amber ale 4%

Wigley Walker - Fruity IPA 4.6%

We do not sell our casks to anyone else, so tasting our beers can only be done here at The Red Lion. We have some bottled ales available to take away (subject to availbility) and gift packs available from the bar.

Matteo makes Birchover Blue cheese at a local dairy farm, helping the hard-working farmer get a fair price for his milk. It is only available from ourselves and is subject to availability.  If you've never tried it, you're missing a treat: creamy, full-flavoured with the subtle piquancy of a true blue cheese.
